Martin Luther King Jr was shot on April 4, 1968, at 6:01 pm, by a white drifter and petty criminal James Earl Ray. Many people don't know that MLK tried for a concealed carry permit following his house being bombed. Since the shooter was shooting long range I doubt a handgun would've done much to save him sadly. However, this is a useful piece of history with the death of MLK you see one of the main arguments of gun control issues. How did a petty criminal get a rifle? Illegally or legally the issue. I didn't know he wanted a concealed carry it brings up an interesting point of how he felt, probably not safe due to the climate of the time. MLK never officially stated his political party or direct view on gun rights, however his death has sparked talk in a lot of circles about gun reform and gun rights.
